From April 13-29 2012 the typographic event Tipos Latinos 2012 will be held at the Centro Carioca de Design, an exhibition space established in 2010 by the the Secretariat for Cultural Heritage, Urban Intervention, Architecture and Design of Rio in a XIX Century building. From there, the international exhibition will tour other cities in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Equador, Guatemala, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, as well as countries in Europe and Asia.
Brazil was the only country featured in all 6 categories of the 5th edition of the Biennial, in a total of 9 projects (one being co-shared with Argentina) developed by designers from Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo, that work in the country and abroad. Organized every two years by a voluntary non-profit international committee composed of designers, educators and typography appreciators, Tipos Latinos is an international typographic space that involves 13 Latin American countries. It also promotes other activities such as lectures, workshops and guided visits.
On Saturday, April 14th Centro Carioca de Design hosts a seminar with lectures and debates on typography, graphic design and communication featuring several designers such as Rodolfo Capeto, Billy Bacon, Mariana Ochs, Henrique Nardi, Fabio Lopez, Pedro Moura, Claudio Reston, Vinicius Guimarães and Márcio Fábio Leite. Afterwards, there will be the launching of a collection of Decorative Letters designed by product designers Marcelo Gonzaga and Juliana Faria of Rio’s od. design. Other parallel activities of Tipos Latinos 2012 in Rio include the workshop Tipocracia: Introductory Course with designer and educator Henrique Nardi; and the calligraphy exhibition “Claudio Gil – Caligrafias” at Galeria da Lagoa, presented by IAV – Instituto de Artes Visuais.
